Our school

We are a colourful school in the Woenselse Heide district. As a school, together with cildcare organisation Little Jungle, we form Spilcentrum Zuiderzeelaan, the nicest Spilcentrum in Eindhoven! We are convinced that fun in learning, challenging education en the cooperation with parents promote the development and opprtunities of children. That is why we pay a lot of attention to a pleasant atmosphere at our school and we make our learning environment and our lessens as attractive as possible: This wat we find important: We find the dutch language development very important en have 2 transition classes in which we offer children an intensive language program for one year. We work closely with the library and the Samen thuis in taal organisation. We think it’s important to prepare our children for the future. In the afternoons we offer an integrated range of subjects geography, history, nature, technology, drawing and crafts. We stimulate working together and learning together. To allow our children to gain experience with the world around them. We regularly organize lesson-related outings and we have an intensive collaboration with De Eerdbrand care center in our neighborhood. We work closely with parents. They are an important partner and are closely involved in the development of the child. There are oppotunities to be involved by participating in the ouderkamer, de MR and the OR. What we stand for

We are convinced that fun in learning fosters the development and opportunities of children. We offer a pleasant atmosphere in which there is a basis of responsibility, trust and respect. We challenge children to develop themselves personally and to discover their talents and stimulate them to get the most out of themselves. We do this in collaboration with parents and with partners in our Spill Centrum and in the neighborhood. To properly visualize the identity of De Schelp, we have chosen core values that match the population of De Schelp and that describe the education we stand for and believe in. The core values act as an ethical compass for our actions in the 2020-2024 school plan period. The core values we have chosen are: • Responsibility: We encourage children to take responsibility for themselves, others and the environment. In this way we stimulate the growth in independence and the intrinsic motivation to take control of one's own development. • Personal development: We encourage children to be aware of their own strength and quality (talent) and support them to make maximum use of this. •Trust: We believe in a foundation of trust and commitment to develop and grow in motivation and relationship. • Respect (global citizenship): We encourage children to be open to others out of curiosity. In this way we stimulate in dealing with the other, showing understanding and interest in diversity in personality, needs, wishes, beliefs, culture and habits. • Fun: We believe that fun is an important basis for developing yourself based on intrinsic motivation and therefore find it important that children enjoy going to school.

What we are proud of

At our school we challenge children to work based on their own motivation and curiosity. We do this by working thematically on subjects such as history, geography, biology, technology, crafts and drawing. At our school we pay a lot of attention to language teaching and vocabulary. We have 2 transition classes where children receive an extra language offer. At our school we actively seek cooperation with parents and with the neighborhood. The well-being of children is important at our school. In addition to the attention we devote to this in the lessons, Rots & Water training courses are organized by our own teachers. A physical education teacher works at our school who also provides a lesson program after school.

Practical facts

School hours: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday 8.30am-2.30pm. Wednesday 8.30am - 12.15pm. Continuous schedule: Our school has a continuous schedule. This means that all children stay at school to eat and drink at noon. So nobody goes home. The children eat and drink in their own classroom with their own teacher or master and then go outside for half an hour. There are no costs associated with this for you as a parent. Breaks: At our school we have breaks for the lower and upper classes. We do this so that there is enough space to play. During the breaks, all team members supervise several times a week because we think that is important; also the director, concierge and administrative assistant. Parent contribution: Our parental contribution is 10 euros per child per school year. Each school year, the parental contribution is re-determined together with the MR. Library: Everyone in our Spill Center has their own pass for our school library and books are borrowed every week. every child can borrow a book for the classroom and a book for at home. Physical education: We have our own large gym in the building where all children have gym lessons twice a week. This lesson is provided 2x per week by a physical education teacher. The teacher also provides a weekly after-school activity that pupils can participate in on a voluntary basis. Rots & Water: We provide social skills training Rots & Water almost every week. This training is provided by our own teachers.

Choosing a school for your child (ren) is a very important step. We think it is important that children feel at home with us at school and like to go to school, but we think it is just as important that you as a parent have a good feeling about our school and also enjoy coming to school. It is therefore nice to get to know our school during class hours so that you really get an impression of the organization of our education and the atmosphere at our school.
